You do not fight the whole Mutated Bowhead Whale unarmed: first reduce it to a sliver of health with your normal weapon, then stop firing, unequip your weapon entirely, and land the finishing blow with bare hands. Brass Knuckles do not count as bare hands. Solo is tough; in co-op, whoever lands the bare-hands finishing blow unlocks it (player/media technique, current patch).
